ABOUT

Kamwangi, situated in Kirinyaga county, is one of the two factories managed by the esteemed New Ngariama Cooperative Society. Located on the picturesque slopes of Mount Kenya, Kirinyaga has gained worldwide recognition for its exceptional coffee quality. Kamwangi was established in 1983, and in keeping with the growing environmental awareness, the factory has taken proactive measures to preserve the ecosystem. To minimize environmental impact, Kamwangi has relocated its waste water soak pits away from the water source. This strategic move allows the waste water to naturally infiltrate the soil, promoting ecological balance.

Kenyan coffee grades:

  • AA (screen size 17 & 18): The largest and most celebrated grade, often commanding the highest prices.
  • AB (screen size 15 & 16): Represents about 30% of Kenya's production, sometimes rivalling AA in cup quality.
  • PB (Peaberry): About 10% of Kenya's production, featuring unique fermentation tasting notes with a winey, syrupy, and mouth-coating profile due to the formation of single round beans instead of two halves.
